nitole+ashraf

This was something new for me. My first South Asian wedding. Nitole was amazingly helpful and had sent a multi-page PDF explaining Muslim and Bengali wedding traditions. The celebration continued over three days, with three dresses of increasing beauty and intricacy, and was shared with hundreds of friends and family.

Regarding day one, the holud, Nitole explained: “This is our fun pre-wedding event that basically consists of putting turmeric paste on the face of the bride and groom and feeding them sweets. Applying turmeric paste is a tradition in South Asian culture that is said to brighten up the face and give a glow. It doesn’t smell that great, so we will be wiping it off periodically!”

It’s that kind of playful attitude I wanted to capture in Nitole and Ashraf’s video. In the middle of the chaos of day three I managed to sit them down alone, for a short time, and just let them be themselves. They’re hilarious together, sometimes mischievous, and always incredibly loving.

kate+andrew // The Feature Edit

Kate and Andrew were kind and trusting enough to let me into very private moments of their day and not hold back at all. We had arranged for them to meet in a little clearing by a creek, in the shade of a gigantic tree, where they took turns reading vows to each other a few hours before the ceremony (sometimes called a “first look”). The experience was truly a powerful one, and something I won’t soon forget.

TL;DW (Too Long; Didn’t Watch): This is the 10-15 minute Feature Edit of their wedding! For their Highlight Edit, which clocks in at about 3 minutes, check out my previous K+A blog entry.  The “Feature Edit” allows a wedding film to breath a little, and really delve into the personalities and quirks of the couple. One scene in particular gets me laughing every time: look for the little red and white mushrooms in Kate’s hair, and the unique history lesson she invokes regarding them. If you fall in love with Kate and Andrew (which is very likely) and just can’t get enough of them, check out their engagement photos as well!

stefanie+daniel // Forever Is Better With You // Hamilton Wedding

Stef and Dan’s ceremony was held at the Royal Botanical Garden’s in Burlington, which served as an incredible backdrop to this beautiful day. I try to point the cameras at inspiring sights wherever they might be found throughout the day, and the RBG didn’t fail to provide. I often found myself laughing out loud while editing this video; Stef is one of the most animated and lively people I’ve ever met. It’s infectious! The night capped off at Liuna Station in Hamilton. The “Kissing Game” demanded that their guests demonstrate wrestling, judo or rugby moves (instead of the traditional clinking of glasses) to get the couple to lock lips. Needless to say, this is the first wedding where I’ve shot footage of multiple body-slams… I hope it’s not my last :-)
